DALSA extends image sensor leadership in medium format digital photography with 6 micron pixel platform

Waterloo, Ontario, September 23, 2008 - This year’s Photokina trade show in Cologne, Germany, sees the launch of groundbreaking new products by some of the most dominant players in medium format photography, and DALSA is proud to provide their most critical components—image sensors built on our new 6 micron pixel platform.

"These new image sensors continue DALSA's tradition of setting the standards by which all others are judged," said DALSA CEO Brian Doody. "Our 6 micron pixel platform enables medium format devices with 50, 60 megapixels and beyond, delivering spectacular, unprecedented resolution and image quality for the world’s most demanding commercial studio applications."

Our technology has led the way in professional digital photography for more than a decade. In 1998 our image sensor group delivered the world’s first 35mm full-frame imager, a six megapixel device that was a landmark in the revolutionary shift to digital that we now take for granted. Ten years later DALSA still leads the industry, supplying devices with ten times that resolution covering the full frame of 645 medium format film.

Of course, image quality depends on more than just pixel count. DALSA knows this better than most—our industry-leading image sensors have always offered higher throughput, exceptionally low noise, unmatched dynamic range, and better color, and our new 6 micron platform delivers even more of the performance professional photographers demand. With higher responsivity to compensate for smaller pixels, our new devices bring no compromises in performance. We continue to deliver superior angular response, which is vital for wide angle lenses or lens tilt and shift techniques.

DALSA’s long history of innovation, our deep expertise, and our commitment to work closely with customers help us deliver the devices that camera developers dream of—devices that they can build into truly unique products.

With DALSA image sensors at the heart of the newest, highest-resolution and highest performance medium format digital camera systems, DALSA’s leadership is clear. The world’s best photographers will explore the possibilities that these remarkable new products bring, delivering incredible imagery for years to come. But technology does not stand still and neither does DALSA. We have earned our leadership position in the world’s most demanding imaging applications through continual technology development, and the products unveiled by our partners at Photokina 2008 are only the beginning.

Stay tuned for more industry-leading image sensor innovation from DALSA.
