A
manufacturer of opto-electrical devices wishes to align parts with
great precision. The goal of the system was to measure the angle
of the part relative to the camera with an accuracy of at least
0.1 degrees.
Solution
The vision component of the solution, designed by engineers at Image Labs International, uses Sherlock integrated with a DALSA frame grabber inside a standard PC interfacing to a customized dual camera enclosure with integrated custom lighting. The camera system was designed to mount on a precision gantry for automated inspection.
This accuracy goal was met and exceeded. Accuracy was shown in testing to be better than 0.025 degrees. The high accuracy achieved with this system was a direct result of the sub-pixel measurement ability of the gauging tools in Sherlock.
