Market Demand for DALSA’s
BOA Smart Camera Surpasses Forecasts
STUTTGART, Germany– November 9, 2010 - DALSA Corporation [TSX: DSA], a global leader in machine vision technology, is celebrating the achievements of its BOA™ smart camera family this week at VISION 2010. BOA is a highly integrated smart camera that comprises all of the elements of an industrial machine vision system. Since BOA was first showcased last year at VISION 2009, the award-winning BOA smart cameras have been praised by customers, and been integrated into automation systems around the world with market demand exceeding expectations.
Customers Applaud the BOA Smart Camera
Both end users and distributors see the advantages of BOA smart cameras for their machine vision needs, including the camera’s small form factor, ease of integration, and the variety of resolutions.
Kathy Dibble, director of Quality for Prime Engineered Components, Connecticut, USA, states, “BOA is a simple, streamlined machine vision application that has worked wonders for our quality control. DALSA’s technology has proven itself, and we feel confident that Prime and our customers will continue to benefit as a result.”
Brian Seguin, vision manager at H.H. Barnum, a BOA distributor in Michigan, USA, adds, “BOA delivers great performance at a very reasonable price. The addition of color processing will allow our customers in the automotive and packaging industries to solve a wide range of applications using the same inspection tool.”
Simon-Julien Elie, machine vision engineer at Rotalec in Montreal, Canada, affirms, “DALSA's new BOA smart camera has generated a lot of keen interest. With its compact size, on-board processing, and versatile, easy-to-use application software, BOA is quickly proving itself a very competitive option to the larger more cumbersome smart camera platforms available today."
BOA Receives Industry Awards
DALSA’s BOA smart camera won Test & Measurement World
magazine’s 2010 Best in Test award
in the Machine Vision and Inspection category earlier this year. The BOA is also a finalist for the Vision Award
, sponsored by Imaging and Machine Vision Europe
, which will be presented at the VISION Show this week. The prize recognizes outstanding products or processes in the area of applied imaging.
Smart Camera Applications
Designed for automotive, electronics, medical, packaging and pharmaceutical industries, typical BOA smart camera applications include:
BOA Features and Benefits
DALSA’s BOA is an all-in-one machine vision solution that is smarter, easier to use, and more flexible than previous generations of smart cameras. It is the first smart camera in its class to incorporate multiple processing engines. This enables algorithm optimization via DSP, application management via CPU, and sensor management via FPGA. It is also the first smart camera that offers truly embedded application software, which is easily set-up through a standard web browser. There is no software to install, and therefore no version control problems. BOA delivers greater flexibility for its users via a rugged, easy-to-mount enclosure, built-in factory communications, and a low deployment cost. BOA smart cameras are available in three models:
· Model BVS-0640M – Monochrome - 640x480 - CCD Sensor
· Model BVS-0640C – Color - 640x480 - CCD Sensor
· Model M1280 – High Resolution, Monochrome – 1280x960 - CCD Sensor
